Summary - What can I do?
The National Indigenous Forest Mapping Website provides information on Australia's forest resource. This information includes maps, area profiles and species descriptions. You can display maps and area information about native forests and plantations. You can also create maps of the data for an Indigenous Coordination Centre (ICC) area using an Internet Mapserver.
How is it organised?
The main components and organisation of the system are shown in figure 1. There are links to the home, maps, and species pages from all pages (not shown).

What does the system contain?
This section describes the main components of the system:
- home page
- project and outputs lists
- other documentation (help, overview, glossary, contributors and contacts)
In addition the system uses an Internet map Server to provide an Advanced Map Viewer.
Home page
The home page provides a brief overview of the system and provides access to the system contents. It also provides links to other documentation, such as overview, acknowledgements, and a glossary.
Project and product lists
Project and product lists show all of the available information for completed projects and outputs. Project outputs (area profiles, maps and species information) relate to a specific project in an area.
- Areas - areas for which area profiles, summaries of the existing and potential forest resource and social information have been developed.
- Maps - create your own maps showing assessment results, such as the area of land capable and suitable for growing Blue Gum plantations in Gippsland, Victoria.
- Species - species considered in the National Plantation Inventory, such as Radiata Pine (Pinus radiata), an exotic softwood, or Blackbutt (Eucalyptus pilularis), a native hardwood.
Other documentation
Other documentation is accessible from the home page. This includes:
- Summary - summary of the project for development of the National Indigenous Forest Mapping Website.
- Glossary - an explanation of commonly used terms, such as plantation capability and suitability.
- Contributors - a list of contributors.
- Contact us - contact information.
- Help - this document.
How do I find things?
The top navigation bar (figure 2) is displayed beneath the title of the page. This has links to all of the main system components including the home, maps and species pages. A link to the Advanced Map viewer is provided from the top navigation bar. A complete description of all of these components is provided in the section 'What does the system contain?'.
