National Scale Land Use Mapping Technical Specifications

Technical information outlining national scale land use mapping has been developed by the Bureau of Rural Sciences (BRS) on behalf of Australian and State Government members of the Australian Collaborative Land Use Mapping Programme (ACLUMP).

National Scale Mapping Procedures and Specifications

National scale land use mapping uses a modelling approach to create relatively less expensive land use maps on the continental scale. The procedures used by BRS to create the most recent national land use maps (for the years 1992/93, 1993/94, 1996/97, 1998/99, 2000/01, 2001/02) using the SPREAD II methodology are outlined in Guidelines for Land Use Mapping in Australia: Principles, Procedures and Definitions (Edition 3). This handbook has been produced on behalf of ACLUMP with its most recent edition released in July 2006. It is the primary reference for the Australian Land Use and Management (ALUM) classification and outlines procedures and specifications for national scale and catchment scale land use mapping in Australia.
