Land Use Reporting
With national coverage of both catchment and national scale land use mapping to be completed soon, the Australian Collaborative Land Use Mapping Programme is focusing on the application of land use data and information to support sustainable natural resource use/management in Australia.
Listed below are examples of how land use data is contributing to analysis and reporting of natural resource issues. Click on the relevant link to find out more information.
Land Use Change
Detection and reporting of land use change, particularly for regions undergoing rapid land use change, or facing critical natural resource management issues, is an important application of land use and land management practices information.

National Australian Land Use Report Card (NALUR)
BRS is developing the National Australian Land Use Report Card (NALUR). It is designed to provide a format and method of presenting synoptic change and trend information for land use, land management practices and consequent commodity and social effects in Australia.
Find out more information on the development of NALUR.
Land Cover Productivity
BRS is conducting research into using remote sensing imagery and land use and land management practices information to develop a series of measures of land use performance and natural resource condition. These performance measures will help establish investment priorities, assist implementation of regional investment plans and monitor and evaluate the success of investments.

Multi-Criteria Analysis Shell for Spatial Decision Support (MCAS-S) System
The Multi-Criteria Analysis Shell for Spatial Decision Support (MCAS-S) system is a simple, flexible multi-criteria analysis tool enabling the integration and exploration of spatial information. It is portable and easy to use, with generic functionality that is independent of data and projection type. The MCAS-S system was developed by BRS with support from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry (DAFF), the Natural Heritage Trust (NHT) and the National Land & Water Resources Audit (NLWRA).
MCAS-S is particularly designed to assist in participatory processes and workshop situations where transparency between different approaches to spatial data classification and combination rules is required. The tool is adaptable to any problem and there is no programming requirement, removing GIS-based barriers to flexibility and interactive use.

Regional Land Use and Vegetation Profiles
To assist investment in decision-making, priority setting and performance monitoring at the regional level, BRS has produced a series of synoptic regional analyses of natural resource use. These regional profiles provide an overview of land use and key vegetation, social and economic characteristics in a concise summary format.
