Overview
Land Use Mapping for Australia is an information hub to assist land managers, planners and others who need to know about land use data and information for Australia. It is available as a website or by *DVD. Both versions are the same except that the DVD contains land use data that can be viewed and used in GIS software packages. The *DVD is available free of charge by calling 1800 020 157.
*Land use mapping DVD is no longer available.
It contains information about land use in Australia, mapping and data, the national land use classification system, technical reports supporting mapping work and analysis of land use information. A summary of Australia's land use is also provided in Land Use in Australia at a Glance.
Land Use Mapping for Australia has been produced by the Bureau of Rural Sciences on behalf of the Australian Collaborative Land Use Mapping Programme (ACLUMP).
The Australian Collaborative Land Use Mapping Programme (ACLUMP)
The Bureau of Rural Sciences is working collaboratively with State agency partners and other organisations, including the National Land & Water Resources Audit and the Murray-Darling Basin Commission, to develop a nationally consistent approach for the production of land use and management information across Australia (Key Concepts).
Substantial progress is being made in putting the land use picture together. National scale land use mapping has recently been completed for the years 1992/93, 1993/94, 1996/97, 1998/99, 2000/01 and 2001/02. Detailed catchment scale land use data for the continent is expected to be completed by 2007. See Land Use Data for more details.
Technical development for the programme is coordinated through the Technical Advisory Group for Australian Land Use Mapping (TAGALUM), which includes representatives from State and Australian Government partner agencies participating in the Programme.
