The Rainfall to Pasture Growth outlook predictions provide an indication of the pasture growth that may be achieved over the next 3 months.
This information can be used in conjunction with regional pasture growth estimates (Tool 4.3) in the MLA More Beef from Pastures manual to more accurately predict pasture availability into the future and assess how closely animal demand for pasture will match pasture supply.
Stock numbers can be changed or other strategies can be put in place to continually match animal demand to predicted pasture supply over the following few months (Procedure 2: Take early corrective action when an excess or shortage of pasture is predicted).
However, it is important to note that before making any management decisions based on the outlook for rainfall, soil moisture index or pasture growth index, the current rating on Outlook Confidence should be checked. The rating indicates the degree of confidence attached to any outlook or forecast presented.
