GABFLOW: a steady state groundwater flow model of the Great Artesian Basin

Authors: W.D. Welsh

This publication describes the development of a groundwater model of the Cadna-owieñHooray Aquifer, the uppermost artesian aquifer in the Great Artesian Basin. The numerical groundwater model, GABFLOW, has been constructed to predict changes in artesian pressures in response to the rehabilitation of pastoral bores and the plugging of abandoned petroleum exploration bores in the Basin. Building on more than a century of groundwater measurements and on previous groundwater models, GABFLOW incorporates our most recent understanding of the hydrodynamics of the Basin and simulates the aquifer as it
