Science for Decision Makers: Plantations and water use
Authors: M Parsons, I Frakes, A Gerrand
Increasing demand for water across Australia has led to a growing concern about the potential for land use change to affect the availability of water. Large-scale plantation forestry has been identified in the National Water Initiative as having the potential to intercept significant volumes of water. This paper provides a brief review of scientific literature relating to water use by vegetation in catchments, and shows current plantation areas in major catchments.
