Collection of data using the core attributes described in this manual should generate reliable and nationally consistent information on Australia’s revegetation. Information captured using that tool will contribute to national datasets. Decision-makers need comprehensive and objective data on revegetation as a basis for setting priorities and measuring the success of revegetation investments. Information on the type and extent of (native and non-native) vegetation is also needed for monitoring change in the resource base. LINEBREAK The core attributes described in this manual were developed by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences, Greening Australia, the National Land and Water Resources Audit and CSIRO. The core attributes have been extensively workshopped by representatives of Australian, state and territory government agencies, regional land management agencies and research institutions. Following these procedures will ensure that data are precise and comparable, and will enable planners and policymakers to better assess the effectiveness of revegetation activities. Landholders can also use the system to report on and monitor their individual revegetation activities. LINEBREAK Developed to assist land managers and regional organisations with data collection as well as monitoring and reporting, it is underpinned by core attributes developed through extensive consultation and is supported by a nationally agreed attribute framework, manual and tab structure.
