Datasets used were: Pastoral land use (2002), McLaren Vale Prescribed Wells Area (2003) Mount Lofty Ranges land use (1993 and 1999) The data was collected through updating and validating the 1993 coverage and using other existing coverage's, aerial photography and satellite imagery. Up to date datasets were obtained and overlaid onto the cadastre, which was then overlaid onto the 1993 land use. Extensive field validation was carried out where 45% of the cadastre polygons were visited and verified as to their current land use. Land use for areas that were not visited were determined by the past land use, dominant land use and satellite and aerial photography interpretation. In 2002, the dataset was updated with Heritage Agreement areas and CAPAD data. Positional Accuracy: Datasets accurate to the DCDB parcels and land use boundaries accurate to the imagery. Attribute Accuracy: The accuracy was determined to be 73%. This result was increased due to the time of the year in which the classification was completed. Excluding the land uses of horses, crops, dairies, pastures, all vegetables and any associated anomalies occurring with the urban classification, the average confidence can be raised to 80%. Any land uses determined through the use of other coverage's can expect a higher confidence level, such as the land uses of protected areas, forest plantations and parks. Northern Agricultural District and Yorke Peninsula land use (1999) Northern Agricultural District: Base imagery includes 1994 NDVI Landsat TM and a small selection of high resolution colour 1:40 000 imagery. The colour imagery was used in the intensive viticulture area of Clare. The base imagery was the primary means of classification for native vegetation, lake and dams. In 2002, the dataset was updated with Heritage Agreement areas and CAPAD data. Yorke Peninsula: Landsat TM imagery from September 1999 was obtained, where crops could be easily differentiated. In 2002, the dataset was updated with Heritage Agreement areas and CAPAD data. Positional Accuracy: Datasets accurate to the DCDB parcels and land use boundaries accurate to the imagery. Attribute Accuracy: Approximately 80%. Logical Consistency: Arc/Info used to check for non-labeled polygons. The dataset is topologically correct. Completenes : Complete. Kangaroo Island land use (2000) The digital cadastre database (scale:1:10 000-1:50 000, date: 01-01-1997) was entered with land use data that was obtained from field work and image interpretation. Features such as lakes and rivers were obtained from SA land cover data (scale: 1:40 000, date: 01-01-1997), and overlaid onto the land uses. Vegetation data, obtained from the conversion of land cover grids (scale: 100 000, date: 01-01-1995) to polygons with associated LUT data, was next added. Heritage Agreement Areas were next overlaid (scale: 1:40 000, date: 15-10-1999). The final dataset to be added was Collaborative Australian Protected Area Database (CAPAD) (scale: 1:50 000, date: 01-06-1999) data, to produced the final land use dataset. Positional Accuracy: Datasets accurate to the DCDB parcels and land use boundaries accurate to Landsat TM imagery. Attribute Accuracy: From field verification, undertaken during 21st - 22nd November 2000, for the 90 sites randomly selected over the whole of Kangaroo Island, 89% accuracy was obtained. Completeness: Complete Eyre Peninsula land use (2001) The digital cadastre database (scale:1:10 000-1:50 000, date: 01-01-1997) was entered with land use data that was obtained from field work and image interpretation. Features such as lakes and rivers were obtained from SA land cover data (scale: 1:40 000, date: 01-01-1997), and overlaid onto the land uses. Vegetation polygons obtained from the SA land cover dataset and Far West Eyre Peninsula native vegetation cover (scale: 1:250 000, date: 01-01-1990) were overlaid onto land cover grids (scale: 100 000, date: 01-01-1995) and vegetation classes determined and added. Heritage Agreement Areas were next overlaid (scale: 1:40 000, date: 15-10-1999). The final dataset to be added was Collaborative Australian Protected Area Database (CAPAD) (scale: 1:50 000, date: 01-06-1999) data, to produced the final land use dataset. Positional Accuracy: Datasets accurate to the DCDB parcels and land use boundaries accurate to Landsat ETM+ imagery. Attribute Accuracy: From field verification (16th July - 4th October 2001), for the 1001 sites randomly selected over the whole of the Eyre Peninsula, an average accuracy of 96% was obtained. Completeness: Complete South East land use (2002) The digital cadastre database (scale:1:10 000-1:50 000, date: 01-01-1997) was entered with land use data that was obtained from field work and image interpretation. Vegetation polygons were obtained from the SA land cover dataset (scale: 1:40 000, date: 01-01-1997) and were overlaid onto land cover grids (scale: 100 000, date: 01-01-1995) and vegetation classes determined. Features such as lakes and rivers were also obtained from SA land cover data and overlaid onto the land uses. Next added were private pines and eucalypt plantation areas (scale: 1:10 000, date: 01-09-1999) and ForestrySA data (scale: 1:10 000, date: 01-01-2000), which showed government-owned forestry areas. Grape vine data were then added (scale: 1:50 000, date: 01-05-2000). Heritage Agreement areas were next overlaid (scale: 1:40 000, date: 15-10- 1999). The final dataset to be added was Collaborative Australian Protected Area Database (CAPAD) (scale: 1:50 000, date: 01-06-1999), to produce the final land use dataset. Positional Accuracy: Datasets accurate to the DCDB parcels and land use boundaries accurate to Landsat ETM+ imagery. Attribute Accuracy: From field verification (13-05-2000 to 30-05-2002), for the 455 sites randomly selected over the whole of the South East, an average accuracy of 95% was obtained. Completeness: Complete Murray-Darling Basin land use (2003) The digital cadastre database (scale:1:10 000-1:50 000, date: 12-12-2001) was entered with land use data that was obtained from field work and image interpretation. Vegetation polygons were obtained from the SA land cover dataset (scale: 1:40 000, date: 01-01-1997) and were overlaid onto land cover grids (scale: 100 000, date: 01-01-1995) and vegetation classes determined. Features such as swamps, lakes and rivers were also obtained from SA land cover data and overlaid onto the land uses. Heritage Agreement areas were next overlaid (scale: 1:40 000, date: 15-10-1999). The final dataset to be added was Collaborative Australian Protected Area Database (CAPAD) (scale: 1:50 000, date: 01-06-1999), to produce the final land use dataset. Note that all the datasets were not present on every mapsheet. Due to time restraints, previous land use data was used. For a number of mapsheets (6631, 6630, 6627 and 6626) 1999 Mount Lofty Ranges Land Use was used. This data was overlaid onto the DCDB as roads were dissolved out of the original dataset. Heritage Agreement and CAPAD data were added to these maps as it was unavailable when the 1999 data was collected. Positional Accuracy: Datasets accurate to the DCDB parcels and land use boundaries accurate to Landsat ETM+ imagery (dryland cropping and northern areas) and aerial photography (riverine areas). Attribute Accuracy: From field verification (17-04-2003 to 16-05-2003), for the 788 sites randomly selected over the whole of the Murray-Darling Basin, an average accuracy of 84% was obtained. Accuracy was not obtained for the far north mapsheets due to lack of variation in land use. Accuracy was not obtained for the mapsheets where 1999 Mount Lofty Ranges land use data was used. Completeness: Complete Arid Lands (2003), The digital cadastre database (scale:1:2500-1:250 000, date: July 2001) was entered to determine road reserves and property boundaries. Areas of residential, public services and utilities were also identified from this dataset. National Parks and Wilderness and Conservation areas were obtained from Collaborative Australian Protected Area Database (CAPAD) 2000 (scale: 1:1000-1:50 000, date: 01-02-2000) and National Parks and Wildlife SA Park Boundaries (scale 1:250 000, date: 25-02-02). Areas of indigenous held land were obtained from the Strategy for Aboriginal Managed Lands InSA (SAMLISA) dataset (scale: 1:250 00, date: 26/06/2000). Vegetation polygons were obtained from the South Australian NVIS Vegetation Mapping Data Compilation (scale: 1:250 000, date: 31-01-2003) and were unioned with the land use dataset and broad vegetation classes determined. Features such as swamps, lakes and rivers were obtained from Waterbodies 250K (scale 1:250 000, date: 31-12-1999) topo data and overlaid onto the land uses. Areas of mining activity (petroleum and minerals) were obtained from Petroleum Production Licences (scale 1:50 000, date: 1-07-2003) and Precious Stone Fields (scale 1:50 000, date: 1-06-2003) datasets. Note that all the datasets were not present on every mapsheet. Positional Accuracy: Datasets accurate to the DCDB parcels and land use boundaries accurate to 1: 250 000. Attribute Accuracy: Due to the size of the project area and time constraints involved field verification was not carried out for Arid Zone land use data. Care was taken in sourcing accurate up to date land use data, from a variety of agencies.
